[...] The coolant line that runs from the thermostat housing to the back of the carburetor got a pinhole leak. It sprayed coolant all over the intake manifold. The smell was like maple syrup. I replaced the line (1/2″ heater hose) and I also replaced the lower hose to the heater core. I replaced the upper hose a few months ago. I had to buy some more coolant to top off the system. Honda’s coolant is now blue. It’s a longer-life formula. The guys at 3Geez.com said I shouldn’t mix the two, but I called a Honda dealer, and he said it was okay to mix them. I mixed them. Time will tell if anything bad happens. I don’t think anything will. I bet the formula is just slightly difference. I imagine the biggest difference is the new dye. [...]

Today, I just purchased rear upper control arms for my '87 Accord. It has upwards of 350k on it, and it also still runs very strong. I have been putting an average of 1,500 mi a month on it lately. You'd die if you saw what the underside of mine looks like. Not one straight panel under there! The car will go forever, just keep an eye on things.

Did you follow the proper procedure to tension the belt?
The first thing I tried when my timing belt was too tight was simply this; with the car off, loosen the adjusting bolt about a half turn, and then retighten it.
That didn't work for me, so I removed the valve cover, and the upper timing cover, and then loosened the adjusting bolt. Then I applied just a little pressure against the belt with my hand to put a little bit of slack in it, and then tightened the adjusting bolt. If you've got the covers off though, it might be worthwhile to follow the tensioning procedure again from scratch, and see if you can get it right that way.
Just be careful, if the belt is too tight, it'll cause premature wear and possible failure, if it's too loose, it'll slap against the covers, and cause premature wear, or jump a tooth.

I just changed the timing belt on my accord and now makes an annoying loud humming noise that increases with rpm (too much tension I suppose). What did you do to reduce the tension on your timing belt? Any details would be appreciated

My 87 Honda Accord is currently having similar symptoms (no audible noise though). I called the dealer and told them I thought I needed a new alternator. The man there told me probably just need brushes. That made me happy.

I never had the factory unit in my car. I have an aftermarket unit, and you have to put two very slim pieces of metal on each side of the radio to release it from the sleeve that it sits in. If you have the factory unit, look on the sidebar for a link to the service manual, and it will include directions.

Hey you still in the 87' Accord? Mine blew up a week ago :P
If you are I was just wondering how the hell you get the
cd/tape player out of it's little niche? I've looked around
at the back of it and can't see it screwed in anywhere... but
it still refuses to budge!

Ruger,

You choke is probably automatic, meaning it won't idle down until the temperature of the engine heats up.
